The Story So Far…

Timeline of Events since the end of the Black War

1015: In the dawn of the new year, the Blackguard is defeated by a coalition of Karameikian, Darokinan, Glantrian, Rockhome, New Alphatian and Thyatian loyalist forces in the Blackguard fortress of Darkhaelic. The Black Wraith is killed, the secret project Nem esis is defeated, and the Thyatian Praetorian lay down arms after the destruction of the higher echelons of power. Stefan Karameikos is buried, and Queen Adriana Karameikos-Hyraskos is crowned. The First Karameikan Senate convenes.

Thyatis: The late Emperor’s second cousin, last remaining member of the Imperial Family, is granted the throne of Thyatis. The office of the Praetor is removed, and military command is returned to the individual regional leaders.

Five Shires: The devastated Five Shires, under continued raiding of pirate attack, is placed under the protection of WDL peacekeeping forces, essentially becoming a military police state.

Pirate Waters Alliance : The Pirate Waters Alliance officially disbands with the death of the more powerful leaders. The individual pirate bands continue to raid and pillage, using the island archipelagos as a headquarters. WDL and expatriate forces turn their attention to remove the pirate threat. By year’s end, most of the clean up work is done, and reconstruction begins in Ierendi and the Minrothad Guilds.

Ylaruam: All of territories that formerly belonged to Ylaruam are ceded and returned as part of Thyatis’ surrender.

Vestland, Ostland and the Jarldoms: The northmen of the jarldoms begin an invasion of the Heldannic Territories .

Ethengar: With the barbarian invasion of the Heldannic territories, the Heldannic Knights stationed in Ethengar are forced to retreat in defense of their homeland. The Khans reaffirm control over their territories, and reconstruction begins.

Glantri: Reconstruction finally begins on the city of Glantri and the principalities that were devastated. The area surrounding the Broken Lands grows by several leagues.

Darokin: All territories taken from Darokin by Thyatian and Aengmore forces are ceded to Darokin after the destruction of the Blackguard. Reconstruction finished by the end of the year.

Atruaghin Clans: Devastated by the experimentation of the Diablerists and the Nem esis project, the Atruaghin clansmen evacuate their ancient territory, heading to neighboring Sind . The area that was formerly the Atruaghin territory is now a lifeless desert known as the Wasteland.

1016: To prevent the future threat of such a devastating war, the nations of the Known World ally to form the Brun Defense Compact. Karameikos, Darokin and Glantri are charter members; Thyatis, Rockhome, Ethengar, Ylaruam, Aengmore and the Five Shires join initially.

1017: Aengmore and Rockhome reach a diplomatic agreement over the territory of Oenkmar . Dwarves are to maintain economic control of the surrounding region, while the Shadow Elves are allowed to continue religious practices in the city proper. Strict zoning laws are put in place to keep the peace.

1018: The Minrothad Guild joins the Brun Defense Compact.

1019: Between internal rebellion and the barbarian invasion, the Heldannic Knights are forced to go underground in their own territories. Freedom is finally hailed for the beleaguered Heldannic Territories . Over several months, factions between the revolutionaries argue and war amongst each other over what the future of the territories will be. In a startling move, the Vanyan Knights (led, some believe, by members of the former Heldannic Knights) unify the kingdom under the Holy Vanyan Empire.

1020: Bowing to pressure from the international community, Sind and the Holy Vanyan Empire join the BDC.

1021: A joint Darokinian/Karameikan venture heads south across the Sea of Dread beyond Minrothad and Ierendi, establishing permanent colonies in the Red Coast . Thyatis responds by sending airships across the sea to the west, establishing colonies along the Dragon Coast .

1023: Northern Sind , previously mostly peaceful thanks to the barrier of the World’s End desert, begins to receive frequent raids by “daemons from the desert.”

1025: Red Coast colonies under attack from orc warbands. Additional reinforcements of Darokinian riflemen are sent south.

1026: Glantri’s northern principalities begin to receive similar harassment as the Sindhi border.

1027: Glantrians complete magical airship technology that is on par with the New Alphatian technology, and far superior to the Thyatian non-magical technology.

1028: The northern Jarldoms are pitted into a period of civil war with the rise of Bullifjen, a particularly powerful Soderfjordan warchief.

1029: After Queen Adriana Karameikos-Hyraskos’ failed economic policies (failed mostly thanks to an unrelenting senate), the Chambermen party succeeds in lowering the Queen’s number of votes to no more than the nobility’s votes: one for her title, one for her land, and one for the crown.

1034: The attacks on the Sindhi/Glantrian border become more organized, and more successful. Legions of undead rise from the desert to assist the raiders. A war council of the BDC is called in the summer of ‘34, and the member countries agree to send reinforcement troops to assist the two nations in repelling the attacks.

1035: Karameikian spies working among the World’s End desert tribesmen discover the attacks are being coordinated by a being who calls himself the Demon King. They also learn that the raids are but a precursor to a far more massive attack on the northern Sindhi city of Bel Gilean . BDC forces prepare to reinforce the defense of the city. The Demon King’s forces fail to appear in Bel Gilean, and instead attack the northern Glantrian provinces. Unprepared, the Glantrians are forced to evacuate and yield territory. War is officially declared between Glantri and the Demon King.

1036: The Demon King’s armies grow stronger with each victory. Comprised mostly of demons, Rakshasa and Yuan-ti lizardmen, and padded out with undead mummies, zombies and skeletal warriors, the supernatural force tears through half of Glantri and northern Sind in a year. With each victory, the World’s End desert grows in size, encroaching further into habitable territory.

1037: Inspired by the destruction wrought by the Demon King, the various warbands and tribes of the Broken Land unite under a powerful Rakshasan warlord named Hinjzou-Fet, invading Oenkmar and southern Glantri. Overburdened with fighting a two fronted war, Glantri officially surrenders to the Demon King by the end of the year.

1038: Current Year. The BDC’s offensive on the Demon King/Broken Lands alliance has begun. Dwarf and Shadow Elven forces, using the tunnels beneath the Known World to move about the Broken Lands, defeat the Broken Lands army. With his support gone, Hinjzou-Fet is forced to retreat and abandon Glantri City . BDC forces then shift their attention towards an offensive into the Demon King’s territory. By winter time, the BDC army has set siege around the fortress pyramid of Bao’Garan, a yuan-ti Citadel. Campaign begins.
