Man. I got real bored, real fast. There I was, taking over the world in Civilization IV, when suddenly time runs out. I still won the game, but it was over. There wasn’t a point to playing it again. So I decided to check some mail, see if there were peeps about. Of course there are no peeps about. ‘Tis the saturday ‘fore Halloween. Everyone is out having fun. And then it came, like a crashing bubble, a sort of empty feeling.

Someone’s away message asked what movie your life would be, ’twere it a movie. And, I find, for the first time in a while, my life really has no cinematic parallel. By this I mean I can’t really relate to any of the movies I’ve seen. Most of the college movies I can remember are about hijinks (they’re all 80s, or Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.) Most of the law school movies (er, the law school movie) I can remember was a Serpico like tale of how difficult it is, or of corrupt systems and institutions, and the people trying to right them. ‘Cept, it ain’t like that for me. I like law school…

So there is no cinematic parallel. I walk movieless. I know why it’s movieless: it’s fucking boring. Nobody wants to sit through an hour and a half of a guy going to class, coming home from class and reading his cases for the next day, then watching Food network until it’s time to experiment in the kitchen again. I’m living a very monastic lifestyle, except there is no monastery.

Culinary Exercising

In sticking to my earlier proclamation of turning this blog into a Culinary blog (what would the buzzword be for that? Clog? And what the hell is it with the 21st century and buzzwords? Everything needs its own buzzword. Did you guys know there’s actually buzzwords to describe the different types of blogs out there? It’s ridiculous,) I’ve decided to write tonight about my newest dietary adventure… baked chicken.

Actually, baked fried chicken. But because I’m trying to keep myself low on the carbohydrates (and because I’m past the two-week no-carb-at-all fascist period), I decided to use whole grain bread instead of regular old bread for the breadcrumbs. Added salt, pepper and spices to the dry mix. Then I slathered it onto some chicken using an egg and dijon mustard mixture, bake for 25 minutes, and voila.

I must say, it tastes surprisingly awesome. The mustard really comes through, though I think next time I’ll add a tiny bit more of it. The crust is nice and crisp, far better than any regular fried chicken. Eaten with a simple side of salad, it’s good (I’m thinking maybe a mustard vinaigrette would’ve been a better choice of dressing, given the theme, but I had ranch in the fridge). Some light pasta might’ve been better. Mmm…

Anyhow, that’s my foray into baked fried chicken. I’ll label this’n a success.
